Summary of work:
Provide a safe and secure environment for everyone who uses hospital facilities and patrols buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and other crimes. Check for unauthorized access and direct people to park. Report all dangerous situations and take corrective action whenever possible.
Minimum qualifications:
high school diploma or equivalent
CT State Security Officer ID required – valid and in good condition
Valid driving license – valid and current
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to deal with all people in a variety of situations
Demonstrate common sense, flexibility in changing circumstances, compassion

Purpose:
Responsible for maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors, staff and all UPMC and adjacent properties. Establish uniformed security personnel to patrol UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds, and related areas to deter criminal activity, document activities, and liaise with UPMC law enforcement personnel or other appropriate law enforcement as necessary. Monitor security, fire and environmental alarms. Responds and resolves questions, disputes, and exceptions as needed. Provide customer care for patients, families, visitors and staff to maintain a safe and secure environment. Events are recorded in appropriate reports as needed.
Responsibilities:
Fixed personnel positions to monitor entering and leaving secure areas
Provide customer care for patients, families, visitors and staff to maintain a safe and secure environment.
Check incoming and outgoing packages as needed to prevent theft
Responds and resolves questions, disputes, and exceptions as needed.
Maintain necessary certifications and licenses
Assist with traffic control and vehicle assistance
Transport the dead to/release the dead from the morgue
Monitor security, fire, and environmental alarms, respond to alarms, and provide assistance when needed.
Establish uniformed security personnel to patrol UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds, and related areas to deter criminal activity, document activities, and liaise with UPMC law enforcement personnel or other appropriate law enforcement as necessary.
Operate UPMC vehicles in accordance with Pennsylvania Vehicle Code Rules and Regulations

Complete all mandatory training programs in accordance with departmental guidelines
Report and record incidents, suspicious activities and hazards
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Handling sensitive/confidential UPMC information requires a high degree of integrity.
Strong interpersonal skills are essential, especially the ability to interact effectively with people from all walks of life, communicate and defuse potentially combative situations.
Dealing with stressful and potentially dangerous conflict situations requires mental capacity.
Physical fitness is needed to deal with typical physical demands that require full-body movement and sufficient physical strength and endurance to intervene in medical crises and emergencies.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Good social skills; able to deal with stressful and potentially dangerous conflict situations.

Must apply to all shifts
Officers are required to wear bulletproof vests.
Employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement should refer to the applicable collective agreement for specific requirements.
Licensing, Certification and Authorization:
When hiring, you must observe the audiovisual standards stipulated in Law 235.
CPR certification is required within 30 days of employment.
A valid driver’s license.
Successfully pass the UPMC physical fitness standards prior to employment.
